This 1890 photo shows a variety of business activity at the northwest corner of the Fairfield square. On the north side of the square from the corner were Thomas BELL Grocery, J. E. ROTH Dry Goods, an unidentified store and McGAW & SHOULTS Dry Goods. Looking north down the present north Main Street were the J.D. SCOTLOIN Harness Shop, A.A. ROYCE Boot Maker, Dr. R.C. SAYERS Veterinary and the SENSE & MITCHELL Livery Barn. Upstairs from the BELL Grocery was RANEY & SIMMONS, Attorneys. Note the dirt street and wooden sidewalk.
