Out of the Past in Pictures
This photo postcard from approximately 1910 shows the Newport Lunch Room and employees. The café was located on the southeast corner of the Fairfield square, next to the LEGGETT Hotel and where the First National Bank clock is located today. The sign next to the side stairs says "Panatorium, Clothes Cleaned and Pressed," and that business was upstairs. Other advertising signs include "Cherry Cheer Soda" on the ground, "Plezol The New Drink" on the door, "Robert BURNS Cigars" next to the door and "We Give S&H Green Trading Stamps" above the window. Customers could also weigh themselves on the sidewalk scales, shown behind the ladies. The postcard is from the collection of Gene Luedtke.
