Note by Compiler: Since the tombstone for Margaret May (WALLING) SMITH is the only one we have found in Jefferson County with the inscription "Mayflower Descendant," we wrote Lois Cronbaugh of Cedar Rapids, Historian, Iowa Society Mayflower Descendants, asking if she could give us some information as to line of descent. She replied that Mrs. SMITH was a descendant of William BREWSTER of the Mayflower. William BREWSTER had a daughter Patience BREWSTER who married Thomas PRENCE.

Their daughter Mary PRENCE, born Plymouth, Mass., June, 1631, died at Eastham, Mass., 28 Sept. 1711; married at Eastham, Mass., 13 Feb. 1649/1650 to John FREEMAN, born Eastham, Mass., about 1621, died Eastham, Mass., 28 Oct 1719.

Their son, John FREEMAN, born Eastham, Dec. 1651, died Harwich 27 July 1721, married at Eastham, 18 Dec 1672 to Sarah MERRICK, born at Eastham 1 Aug. 1654, died Eastham 21 Apr. 1696.

Their daughter, Patience FREEMAN, born Harwich, Mass., about 1689, died 28 Jan. 1731/2; married at Harwich 24 Oct 1706 to Eleazer CROSBY, born Eastham, 30 March 1680, died Harwich, 9 Nov. 1759.

Their daughter, Rebecca CROSBY, born 12 May 1709, married Eastham, Mass., 12 Oct 1732, Ebenezer HOPKINS, born 1 July 1706.

Their daughter, Phoebe HOPKINS, born Brewster, Mass., 12 Apr 1737, married at Brewster, 12 Nov 1761, Elisha CROSBY, born at Brewster, 10 Dec 1736, died after 1790....

Their son Elisha CROSBY, born Brewster 6 Dec 1772 (possibly 6 Mar 1772); married... Susan...

Their daughter, Phoebe CROSBY, born Unadilla, N.Y. 21 Mar. 1800; married first to Benjamin PECK, born Bainbridge, N.Y., 8 July 1787; died Bainbridge, N.Y. 30 Apr. or 9 July 1829.

Their son, Hezekiah PECK, born Bainbridge, N.Y. 12 March 1820, died Salt Lake City, 20 Oct 1859; married in 1840 to Jemima SMOOT, born Maryland, Owen Co., Ky., 24 April 1818, died Henderson, Iowa in 1908.

Their daughter, Margaret PECK, born Johnson Co., Ill., abt Oct. 1843, died at Glenwood Mills, Iowa, 11 June 1910; married Salt Lake City, Utah, 15 Oct 1864, Warren WALLING, born Morristown, New Jersey, 21 March 1844, died at Glenwood, Iowa, 21 Dec. 1904.
