Wain SLOAN and Mila FOREMAN were married Nov. 3, 1943, at Miller Memorial Brethren Church in Des Moines by the Rev. Harry Herlein. Mrs. SLOAN graduated from Monroe High School in 1943, and the couple moved to Fairfield in 1966. Mr. SLOAN worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation and served as a district mechanic for southeast Iowa until he retired in 1986 after 37 years. Mrs. SLOAN worked for Iowa Malleable Iron Company in Fairfield for 20 years before retiring.

Mr. SLOAN was scheduled to graduate high school in 1944, but his education was interrupted by World War II. He served in the military and joined the Navy in 1943. He worked on the "U.S.S. Corregidor" aircraft carrier, served in the Pacific theater, earned five battle stars and was honorably discharged December 1945. To fulfill a promise to his father, he returned to high school and earned his diploma and graduated with the class of 1956 at Monroe High School.

Mr. and Mrs. SLOAN were members of the Monroe United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school, vacation Bible study and serving as junior high school youth leaders. They are now members of the Fairfield United Methodist Church and have taken part in Sunday school and a church camping group.

Mr. SLOAN has been in the Masonic Lodge since 1951. He has served as the grand chaplain of Grand Lodge of Iowa, assistant chaplain of Ottumwa Consistory Club, chaplain of Clinton Lodge No. 15 and member of York Rite, White Shrine and Wapello No. 4. He also has been a director of the Scottish Rite Foundation since 2003. Mr. and Mrs. SLOAN are both members of the Scottish Rite Heritage Society.

The couple has three daughters: Deanna CAMPBELL and husband John of Lincoln, Neb.; Barbara BROUWER and husband Curtis of Crawfordsville, Ind.; and Lois BYRD of Houston, Texas. They have eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Cards can be sent to the couple at 1011 S. 7th St., Fairfield 52556.
