"Fairfield Ledger" Marriages, October 22, 1868
October 1, 1868, by Rev. A. M. VALE, at Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Capt. A. S. JORDAN, of Fairfield, Iowa, and Miss Ada M. JORDAN, of Cape Elizabeth.
The gallant boys of the 19th Iowa infantry, ---and thousands of other friends,--- will be rejoiced to learn that their favorite officer has again enisted [sic] --- this time in the service of Hymen. May Scott and his fair bride sail down the sea of life with a calm breeze, and may the "Jorden" of their desires be peaceful and happy.
[Ed. note: Hymen, from Greek mythology, is the God of Marriage. A ‘jorden’ is a pot or vessel with a large neck; a chamberpot.]
