Note: In the winter of 1849-1850 William LONG and a man named McMILLEN rented Deeds' Mills and took charge of Deeds Store at Deedsville, later called Merrimac.
Jan. 9, 1850, William LONG "attends" before the Commissioners of Jefferson County to obtain license for Deeds Ferry over Skunk River. (See Deeds vs. LONG, Jefferson County Court Records, and Records of Proceedings of County Commissioners.)
On the ballots for the election of 1860, William LONG was a "running mate" of Abraham Lincoln; LONG was elected Clerk of Courts of Jefferson County.
Dec. 27, 1860, a son was born in Fairfield to William and Catharine (STEVER) LONG, and was named William Lincoln LONG. ("Ledger", Nov. 14 & 16, 1931.)
