Two boys narrowly escape barn fire

A narrow escape for two little boys occurred Monday afternoon in the southwestern part of town. Little Harold VOORHIES and Herse WISECARVER, each about five years old, had gone into the barn back of the home of Mr. Frank VOORHIES, and playing with matches had set fire to a quantity of hay in the loft.... The little VOORHIES boy had the presence of mind to go down the ladder.... An alarm of fire was soon given and in a short time the hose company was on hand, but the barn was destroyed. The prompt arrival of the fire company prevented the fire from spreading. A span of mules belonging to H. E. WISECARVER were badly burned by burning hay falling on them before they were finally released... The barn was on the property of Dr. Samuel WILSON....
