U. S. COCHRAN, son of George, was born in 1864 in Round Prairie township, and has been in continuous residence in Jefferson County for 76 years. He married Fannie Elizabeth TAYLOR on October 20, 1886, and they had two children, John H. and George S.. Mr. COCHRAN farmed a place three miles northeast of town, and remained there until the death of his wife in 1914. At that time he came to Fairfield. He started clerking in the Climax Grocery Store, and continued work at various grocery stores for eleven years.
His son, George S., was born in 1891, and lived in Jefferson County until reaching manhood. At the present time he is residing in Los Angeles, California. John H. was born in 1887, and has been employed in the local post office since 1906. At the present time he holds the position of assistant postmaster. He was married to Hazel GABBERT in 1908, and they are the parents of two children, J. Richard and Robert S.. Both boys were reared in Jefferson County. J. Richard has two children, Christine L. and Jo Ann, and, with his family, lives in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Robert S. and his wife live in Fairfield.
