A building boom struck Fairfield in 1856, and it was during this period that the Ellsworth TURNEY residence, 300 West Burlington Street, was built by George D. TEMPLE. The house now occupied by Mark E. HOSKINS Funeral Home was also built at this time by Dr. Nathaniel STEEL.

Note: 1966 -- The TEMPLE-TURNEY "Mansion" (red brick) was razed years ago, and the 300 W. Burlington location is now occupied by a service station.
