"Fairfield Ledger", Centennial Edition, Oct. 2, 1939, Sec. D, Pg. 7, Col. 5

WILLIAM H. FAULKNER was born in Fairfield March 5, 1865, in an old log cabin in the northeast part of town. He was the son of Eugene (U.G.) and Mary GOVER FAULKNER, who came to Jefferson County in 1842, settling south of Fairfield one-half mile from Smith's Ford.

Eugene FAULKNER was a freighter, using ox teams with as high as 20 yoke of oxen to transport freight from the river to inland points. He delivered the first steam mill brought into Fort Dodge, taking it off the boat at Keokuk and carrying it cross country to Ft. Dodge. His uncle, Dan McGINNIS, built the old Reed's Mill, and his father hauled the stone for the abutments of the nearby bridge from the quarries of the Grandfather FAULKNER, who also had a lime kiln in that vicinity.

Mr. FAULKNER is the father of twelve children: Dave FAULKNER of Calif.; Fred, Bert and John FAULKNER of Keosaqua; Mrs. William BRIGGS, Mrs. Walter RANARD and Harry FAULKNER of Fairfield; Lloyd FAULKNER of Globe, Ariz.; Lew FAULKNER of Gardena, Calif.; Dottie, who is now teaching in the Indian School at Tama, a representative of the Moody Bible Institute of Chicago; and two sons who are deceased.
