Comrade James W. MESSICK was 82 years old last Friday. When Co. E, 2d Iowa Infantry left Fairfield in 1861 he was the oldest man in the company. Very few of the boys are alive today and James is still here able to look after his garden. He has been married 53 years. If he is not already a good man, he ought to be since he has had so much time given to him. He has only 18 years to reach the century mark. Hope he may see it.
