"Fairfield Ledger", July 10, 1907, Pg. 6, Col. 1

Mrs. Sarah HOFFORD, Logan, was a guest of Mrs. S. W. COFFIN in this city last week. She was a daughter of John RATLIFF, who established one of the first grocery stores in Jefferson County, at Lockridge in 1837, and who moved his stock to Fairfield when the county seat was located in 1839. Mrs. HOFFORD was born in this city in 1842. The father died here in the early '50s in a house located on the southeast corner of courthouse square, and the family removed to Harrison County in 1856.
