"Jefferson County Republican", Sept. 6, 1901, Pg. 4, Col. 3

M. A. McCOID has bought the old WOODS house west of the northwest corner of the square and is having it moved out onto his lot on North Main Street. It is the oldest house in town, built in 1840. The weather boarding was split from walnut logs. A large tree near where this building stood is being removed by William COOP, the first white child born in this county. The tree was planted in 1851 and the man who is removing it is 63 years old.
