SOUTHWEST CORNER, LIBERTYVILLE, etc.... The diagonal road leading southwest from Fairfield is, we are told, a part of the old dragoon route from Ft. Rock Island to Leavenworth. It was crossed about six miles from Fairfield by another diagonal road, from Keokuk to the Agency, and to Ft. Des Moines; and here, among the first settlements in the county, grew up a village called Libertyville... Sol VAUGHT's palce, the old 'Indiana House', a "wayside Inn" in the early time with, no doubt, an interesting history, could one but look it up.....
