J. W. JOHNSON, farmer, Sec. 35; P.O. Hickory; born Apr. 11, 1816, in Byron Co., Ky.; in 1829 came to Ill.; in 1858 to Jefferson County. Owns 220 A.. Married Harriet DAVIS in 1837; she born 1819 in Va., died 1861; had 12 children, 5 living -- Amanda, Sarah, Wm., Harriet and Dorinda; 2nd marriage to Mrs. Mary BEARTHELOW Apr. 22, 1861; she born Oct. 24, 1819; she has four children by former marriages: Catherine, David, James W. STUMP and Jasper BARTHELOW. Member Cumberland Presbyterian Church. (See Isaac BARTHELOW family in 1850 Census of Liberty Township)

Note: Second wife Mary's maiden name was TERHUNE; she was first married to George STUMP (who died 1846), second to Isaac BARTHELOW, and third to J. W. JOHNSON. She is buried with Isaac in Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Van Buren County, IA.
