JEFFERSON COUNTY REPUBLICAN, Friday, November 16, 1900 4-3
R. C. Edgar and wife (Jane Gregg Edgar) of Lacona, Warren County, who have been visiting relatives in various places in the state, came in from Batavia yesterday, accompanied by Mrs. A. A. Holmes of Batavia, and are visiting at the home of Mrs. Elinor Long. The three ladies are sisters and have not all enjoyed a visit together for twenty years, and this is indeed a happy reunion.
Mr. Edgar came to Iowa from Ohio in 1839, when Iowa was yet a territory; settled in Wapello County. Says he remembers when they had to come to Fairfield for their mail and pay twenty-five cents for a letter, and when it sometimes took four weeks to make a trip to the flouring mill and back.
We were favored with a very pleasant call from Mr. Edgar and his nephew, Arthur Long, this morning.
