Section J, Page 2, Column 4WILLIAM V. LINDER.... one of the older members of the "spit and whittle" club which holds such spirited meetings in the park on fine days is William Vance LINDER, 87.
Born near Abingdon, Va., May 29, 1852. There he lived until June 7, 1876, when he started for Iowa in a covered wagon with Henry T. CUDDY and his wife Mary. Mary was a half-sister of Mr. LINDER. The CUDDYs two sons, Milton H. and T.D. accompanied them west. The group arrived at Brookville on April 18, 1876 (sic - 1877?), and there they lived until the fall of that year, when they moved to Abingdon. Mr. LINDER worked at the Cabinet trade in Virginia, and when he came to Iowa he clerked in a store until Jan. 20, 1885, when he married. At this time he and his bride moved on a farm near Pekin, where they lived until the spring of 1900. They then bought a farm north of Libertyville, where they lived until 1911, when he retired for active farming and moved into Libertyville. In 1917 they came to Fairfield.....
