Vivian Kessel, 15-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph J. Kessel north of town underwent an operation this morning at the Mayo Clinic for a serious bone ailment of the left leg. Friends may write her at Hotel Martain, Room 205, Rochester, Minn. The extent of the operation has not as yet been ascertained.
Mr. and Mrs. C. Smith are with Helen Kessel at the farm during her parents' absence.
Vivian Kessel Goes to Clinic
-----FAIRFIELD- Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kessel, who live north of Fairfield, have taken their daughter, Vivian, a high school freshman, to the Mayo clinic in Rochester, Minn. She has a bone ailment which is thought to be the result of an injury to her left knee some weeks ago when she fell from a horse.

Vivian Kessel Taken to Rochester ClinicVivian Kessel, freshman high school student, is undergoing examination at the Mayo clinic in Rochester for a rare bone ailment. It is hoped bone can be grafted to retard the ailment. X-ray showed a bone injury below the left knee thought to be a result of a bruise suffered in a fall some months ago.
Vivian's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kessel, of north of town, are with her at the hospital.

Kessell Girl Has Bone OperationFAIRFIELD - Vivian Kessell, high school freshman and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kessel who live north of Fairfield, underwent an operation Thursday in Rochester, Minn. for the removal of a bone abscess in her left leg from which she has been suffering for several weeks. She is making satisfactory progress.

Operation at Mayo Clinic SuccessfulRalph Kessel returned last evening from Rochester where he had accompanied his wife and daughter, Vivian. The operation for removal of a giant cyst tumor from the left leg of Vivian was successful and she is reported convalescing satisfactorily. Mrs. Kessel is remaining with her daughter at Colonial hospital for some time.
The tumor grew from the marrow of the small leg bone, Mr. Kessel stated. Not until the operation was it certain whether or not amputation below the hip would be necessary. It was not known anything was wrong until January 20 when Vivian bumped her leg in the high school gym class. X-ray indicated the seriousness of the ailment, thought at first to be sarcoma of the bone, a disease that spreads rapidly. Vivian's cards at the clinic were all marked extreme emergency and she underwent the 2 1/2 hr operation shortly after arrival.

Vivian Kessell Home from HospitalFAIRFIELD - Miss Vivian Kessell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kessell, north of Fairfield, who has been a surgical patient at the Mayo hospital in Rochester, Minn. for two weeks, was brought home Wednesday night. She is able to be about on crutches, although it will be some time before she is able to resume her classes at the high school.
