It develops from reports since Saturday that J. W. DOLE has the oldest Bible in Fairfield. He covets a Bible that is 208 years old, having been handed down thru the generations, the property of the "Joseph." The book is highly valued.
Mrs. E. T. HARLAN has a Bible that was purchased by her grandfather in 1813, and was printed in 1811. She also has a paper, the similar of which is perhaps found in very few if any homes hereabouts. It is a patent granting land in 1812 to her great-grandfather, Joseph WASSEN, signed by President James Madison and secretary of state, James Monroe.
Park CAMPBELL, 709 South Third street, has an old Bible that has been handed down thru the CAMPBELL family since 1763, or 157 years, and is highly valued. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. RISINGER of South Depot street, have a Bible that dates its entrance into the family since 1819, or 101 years.
W. D. SHIRK informs us he has two Bibles, highly coveted. He says, "I have a large English Bible 150 years old. It is leather bound, 10x13½ inches, and was owned by my grandparents when they come to the United States in 1817. I also have a large German Bible which is 87 years old, owned by my grandparents, on my father's side of the family. The book is strongly bound in leather, the cover being well protected with brass headed tacks, and has brass and leather straps.
