JESSE A. CORNELL, Sec. 11, Des Moines township, eldest child of George Tyler and Elizabeth (GIBBS) CORNELL, born in Warren Co. Ohio, 8 May 1871. The parents were born, reared and married in Warren County where the father engaged in farming until 1881, when the family removed to Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. CORNELL had six children:

1 - Jesse A.
2 - Wilbur, deceased
3 - Viola May, wife of Grant CORNELL, a cousin, farming in Ohio
4 - Clarence...)
5 - Ralph.........)... all deceased
6 - Ernest Ray)

In the paternal line Jesse A. CORNELL is of Welsh extraction, his grandfather, George CORNELL, having emigrated from Wales to the U.S. when a youth of 16 years. He settled in Ohio during the pioneer days and there three years later, when he was 19, married a Miss HANNA, native of New Jersey, who was 13 years of age.... The family of Mr. and Mrs. George CORNELL numbered 18 children of whom the son George Tyler was the youngest....

On Christmas Eve, 1896, Mr. Jesse A. CORNELL married Miss Emma JACOBSON, daughter of Gus. F. and Hannah (EDMONDS) JACOBSON, both natives of Sweden. Children of Gus F. and Hanna JACOBSON:
1 - David, living in Des Moines, Iowa;
2 - Mrs. CORNELL;
3 - Wilbur, who died in childhood;
4 - Etta, passed away when she was 18 years of age...

Mr. and Mrs. Jesse A. CORNELL are the parents of four children:
1 - Ruth Hannah, born 9 Nov. 1897;
2 - Grace Freeda, born 2 Dec. 1899;
3 - Ernest Leo, born 9 Jan. 1900;
4 - Goldie Christina, born 17 Aug. 1906.

Mr. Jesse A. CORNELL's maternal grandfather, Jesse GIBBS and one uncle, Joseph GIBBS, were in the Civil War and went with Sherman on his famous march.
