OLD SETTLERS DAY(1893?) (Undated clipping in Heaton's scrapbook) Mr. S. C. Finney, of Blakesbury, Ia., the first mayor of Fairfield, spoke of his old-time home here. He held up a letter from his mother showing that the postage from Maryland, where she then lived, was eighteen and three-fourths cents. He said a young lawyer named Tom Gray carried the mail around in his hat and gave it out to the people as he met them.
