SYLVESTER BURK BISHOP, resident of Liberty Twp., 220 acres in Sections 22 & 23. Born in this township 8 Apr. 1847, son of John and Mary E. (HUFFMAN) BISHOP, pioneer residents of this section of Iowa and witnesses of almost the entire growth and development of the state. The father was native of Virginia, coming here at a very early age.... His wife was the first white child born in Van Buren Co. In their family were seven children:
1-Talbott, of Libertyville;
2-Sylvester B.;
3-Ann, wife of Samuel BERRY, of Culbertson, Montana;
4-Robert, died at age 47 yrs., leaving widow and 4 daus.;
5-Dr. Carl BISHOP, of Glasgow, Iowa;
6.Mary, wife of Harl HUBLEDAL, of Rock Island, Ill;
7-Emma, twin sister of Mary, and died in infancySylvester B.... continued with his father until 24 years of age and then went to Custer County, Idaho, where he spent four years, employed as an amalgamator in the Custer Mills. Returned to Iowa and three years later, on 10 Mar. 1888, married Miss Emma HEALDE, native of Liberty Township, daughter of John and Malinda (GRAMMER) HEALDE, both now deceased.
