Erastus Pitkin was a nephew of Wm. Pitkin who operated a mill where the Fairfield and Birmingham road crosses Cedar Creek and for whom the old ford was named ..... Erastus married Jan 1 1849 Emily Barnes, in the Barnes log cabin on what was later known as the Hill farm, three miles north of Birmingham. This cabin was a stopping place for the Indian chiefs of those days and Keokuk was entertained beneath its roof .....
