WALTER E. PROUTY, LOCKRIDGE TIMES PUBLISHER, DIES.
Lockridge, Ia.--Walter E. Prouty, 70, publisher of the Lockridge Times, died suddenly Tuesday at 7:45 at his home here.....Prouty's career as a publisher and printer spanned nearly 60 years. He was born Feb. 1, 1888 at Windsor, Mo., the son of Flavious and Eunice Prouty. He was reared and educated at Adel and began work as a printer at the Adel News.

Before coming to the Fairfield Ledger as a linotype operator in 1916, Prouty worked for newspapers and print shops in Audubon, Des Moines, Webster City, Sac City, Minneapolis, Minn., Duluth, Minn., and Chicago. He was employed at the Ledger from 1916 to 1920. During that period he purchased the subscription list of the Lockridge Herald, then printed by the Fairfield Journal. A short time later he moved the paper to Lockridge and renamed it Times.

Prouty was married to Ferne Russell Oct. 19, 1915. He is survived by his wife and three daughters; Mrs. John L. Ham, Manistee, Mich.; Mrs. Robert W. Farr, Bettendorf; and Mrs. Ivan Reece, Columbus Junction. Also surviving are five grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. James Newby, Des Moines; and two brothers, Clyde Prouty, Los Angeles, Calif.; and Bill Prouty, Adel. Two sisters and three brothers are deceased. Prouty was a member of the Lockridge town council and formerly served as postmaster and school director for many years. He was a member of the Fairfield Methodist church, Fairfield Rotary Club, IOOF lodge, Rebekah Lodge No. 386, and the Lockridge Lions Club.
