Page 308.CLARENCE MURPHEY, who has remained a resident of Jefferson County from his birth to the present time.....farming.....Born 9 May 1861 in Round Prairie Township, his parents being Levi and Sarah (Bower) Murphey, who were natives of Ohio and Penn, respectively.....During the early period of Levi Murphey's resident here, he made a trip to the Nevada gold fields, but the venture proved unprofitable and at the end of two years he returned to Iowa; he died 3 July 1902; wife died 29 Feb. 1896. Clarence Murphey acquired his education in the district schools, studying under the preceptorship of Hiram Heaton. Married Oct. 20, 1888, Miss Mary J. Duttweiler, daughter of Jacob and Sarah (Baldozier) Duttweiler. Nine children: 1-Clarence E., who operates a mill and is also engaged in the manufacture of cement blocks at Lockridge; Iowa; 2-Frank, living in Lockridge; 3-Chester; 4-Hazel; 5-Raymond; 6-Bertha; 7-Eddie; 8-Ellen; 9-Jessie.
