“LYON, Rev. F. F., Sec. 17; P.O. Fairfield; was the first Sheriff of Jefferson County, Iowa, and a minister of the Gospel over 40 years; a native of Otsego Co., N.Y., born Aug 6 1816; his early life was spent in attending school and teaching; came to this county in 1837; was appointed Sheriff of this county in 1838. Married Miss Rachel M. Harris in Lockridge Township Nov 8 1838; she was born in Penn. In 1825; have 13 children: (1) Nancy Ann, born March 5 1840; (2) Margaret, born July 25 1841; married N. Embree; (3) Samuel G., born July 12 1843, married Miss E. Embree; (4) Wm. A., born July 28 1845, married S. N. Myers; (5) Rachel Jane, born May 31 1847, married G. N. H. Embree; (6) Clarissa, born Sept 6 1849; (7) Fred L., born March 6 1851, married Melissa Miller; (8) Mary E., born Feb 19 1853; (9) John S., born Nov 30 1854; (10) Demarcus Newton, born May 6 1856; (11) Susan Isabel, born April 16 1860, married A. McClintock (McClintic); (12) Nathaniel B., born Oct 28 1863; (13) Whitfield L., born May 28 1865. . . . . .”I am copying this information for the benefit of genealogical research and am not related to said individuals.
