"JOHN D. EDWARDS, farmer, Sec. 10; P.O. Pleasant Plain; a pioneer settler of Penn Twp., Jefferson Co.; native of Clinton Co., Ohio; born in 1811; in 1832 came to Illinois, and engaged in introducing carding machines into that State; in 1839 moved to this county and settle in Penn Twp. Married in 1835 Isabel Jane Valentine, native of Southey Co., Ohio; eight children living -- Samuel; William D., Mary Jane (now Mrs. A. Crumly); Elizabeth; Harriet (now Mrs. N. F. Hackney); Lydia; Rachel (now Mrs. M. Hoskins), and Louisa Ida (now Mrs. C. N. Draper). Members Society of Friends. . . . ."
