Hanawalt, G. Roland

Roland G. Hanawalt, 59 years of age, passed away at the University Hospital at Iowa City at 1:30 Wed. morning, death resulting from heart trouble. He had been in poor health for a number of years.

He was a bachelor and he and his brother Elmer lived together on an acreage east of hotel Colfax. He is survived by three brothers, Elmer and James of Colfax and Ralph of Oswalt, and three sisters, Mrs. Scott Good and Mrs. John Young of Colfax and Mrs. John Dimon of Council Bluffs.

Funeral arrangements are not completed at this time.

Obituary – G. R. Hanawalt

Garrett Rolland Hanawalt was born near Colfax, Iowa on April 12, 1874, and passed away at the University Hospital at Iowa City on the night of April 18, 1933 from a chronic heart ailment of many years duration, being at the time of his death, 59 years, 6 days of age.

He was the son of George W. and Julia A. Hanawalt, both of whom preceded him in death a number of years ago.

He and his younger brother, Elmer, have continued to live at the old home place east of Colfax, since the death of their parents and for almost their entire lives.

He became a member of the Colfax Church of Christ in 1898.

His health had continued to fail for some time and on Saturday, April 15, he was taken to the University Hospital at Iowa City for treatments.

He is survived by three brothers, James G., Elmer E. and Ralph I., all of Colfax, Iowa, and by three sisters, Mrs. Zola Young and Mrs. Katherine Good of Colfax, and Mrs. Daise Dimon of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and a number of nieces and nephews to all of whom he was greatly attached and many neighbors and old friends who kindly remember Roll as a quiet and kindly friend who will be sincerely missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held Friday from the Christian Church with the pastor, Rev. J. W. Taenzeler officiating. Burial was made at the Slaughter Cemetery.

Pall bearers were John Mead, Bob Wilson, E. S. Meckley, Jim Bell, Fred Rorabaugh and W. C. Pierce.
