Charles Allen Taylor
March 30, 1944 - April 1, 2026Charles Allen Taylor, of Sully, Iowa, passed away on April 1, 2026, at MercyOne in Des Moines at the age of 82.
Born on March 30, 1944, in Newton, Iowa, Charles was the son of Walter Edward Taylor and Alice Mary (Johnson) Taylor. He grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1962. Shortly after, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1969.
In December of 1966, Allen was united in marriage with Vivian Keenan. She would precede him in death in 1975. He later married Donna (Bowie) Vollers. Allen was a hardworking man who spent much of his career as a machinist at Thomberts. He was known for his strong work ethic, mechanical skill, and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. In his free time, he had a passion for small engine repair and could often be found tinkering in his garage, fixing just about anything with a motor.
An avid fisherman, Allen found peace and joy on the water. Whether casting a line alone at sunrise or sharing stories with family and friends, fishing was one of his greatest pleasures. More than anything, he cherished time spent with his family and took pride in being a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his children, Greg (Tammy) Taylor and Kaylee Taylor (Dan DeVore); his grandchildren, Zach Taylor, Courtney (Jimmy) Coop, Caleb (Taylor) Crum, Cheyenne (Matt) Belcher, Cameron (Autumnn) Van Wyk, Jason Taylor, and Jacob Taylor Dakota (Kaitlyn) DeVore and Damika (Cody) Vander Broek; and many great-grandchildren, including Makayla, Caeson, Thea, Mallory, Damien, Everlee, Carter, and Carlee. He is also survived by his sisters, Karen Martin and Mary Dawson (Frank); cousin, Larry McKinney; along with many nieces and nephews and his ex-wife, Donna Vollers.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Edward and Dennis; his first wife, Vivian Taylor; and a great-grandson, Chase.
A private family service will be held. Allen will be laid to rest at Newton Union Cemetery.
Allen will be remembered for his quiet strength, his skilled hands, his love of fishing, and his deep devotion to family. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the memories shared by those who knew and loved him.
