Betty J. Korte, 77, of Newton died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Memorial services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Newton with the Rev. Donald Freeman officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. John's Cemetery in rural Newton. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.
Friends may call after 8:30 a.m. Friday at the church, where the family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. The family also will greet friends with a lunch immediately following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the United Presbyterian Church or to the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center. Memorials may be left at the church on the morning of the service or at the funeral home.
The daughter of Kenneth D. and M. Lucille (Stewart) Blacker, she was born Feb. 16, 1928, in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1946 and was a lifelong resident of Newton.
On April 20, 1952, she married Charles R. Korte at St. John's Church in rural Newton. Prior to her marriage, she worked at the Farm Bureau. After she married, she worked as a homemaker and a farmer's wife.
Mrs. Korte was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir. She was a member of Merryweds, Jasper County Historical Society and a past member of the Jasper County Choir. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, crafts, gardening, flowers, singing and reading.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Doug (Lori) Korte of Laurel and Kevin (Kimbra) Korte of Newton; four grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Bozarth of Newton and Beverly (Kenneth) Gifford of Kellogg; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Charles; and a brother-in-law, Don Bozarth.
