COCOA, Fla. — Jeannette (Tiedje) Ferguson, 87, of Cocoa, Fla., formerly of Newton, died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, in the Wuesthoff Hospice Care Center of Wuesthoff Hospital in Rockledge, Fla.
Memorial services will be today at 1 p.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Newton with the Rev. Michael Dack and the Rev. David Raymond officiating. A private family burial will be held prior to the memorial service at Newton Union Cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. Memorials will be accepted to Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Humane Society or to Hospice of Brevard County, Fla., and may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of John and Grace (Watt) Tiedje, she was born Aug. 8, 1918, in rural Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and later transferred to and attended Iowa State University in Ames. On May 31, 1942, she married Dr. John W. Ferguson in Newton and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, member of Newton Country Club and was a member of PEO. She was an avid golfer and won several local and state tournaments. She also enjoyed music, dancing and bird watching, as well as traveling, entertaining and playing bridge.
Survivors include a son, John "Tom" (Annette) Ferguson of Littleton, Colo.; three daughters, Susan (David) Dunscombe of Cocoa, Fla., Johnna (Pat) Cashill of Reno, Nev., and Sally (Frank) Hannawacker of St. Cloud, Minn.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Quentin Tiedje; and two sisters, Florence (Tiedje) Hagedorn and Elise (Tiedje) Wise.
