A Dear Old Mother Passes Suddenly Away
Mrs. Z. W. Blakely, a Resident of Jasper County for Fifty-four Years, Dies Near Killduff
Funeral services were held Saturday, 3 p.m. at the Jacob Klein home near Killduff for Mrs. Z. W. Blakely. Dr. W. H. Heppe, pastor of the Methodist church had charge of the service. The pall bearers were five of her grandsons, Lester Green, Burl Braley, Ed, Elmer and James Guessford and Silas Blakely, a nephew. Fred Hough accompanied by Marjorie sang two or three beautiful hymns. Burial was made in the Wildcat cemetery.
Elizabeth Kunkle was born in Knox county, Ohio, December 2nd, 1831 and died July 3rd, 1919, being at the time of her death 87 years and 7 months old. She was married to Z. W Blakely, November 8th, 1849. They moved to Muscatine, Iowa in 1854 and to Jasper county in 1865, where she has lived ever since. Her husband died March 27, 1898. Since his death she has made her home with Mrs. Maggie Green, her youngest daughter until the past five years, she has made her home with her eldest daughter, Mrs. W. M. Guessford. Three weeks ago she went to the home of another daughter, Mrs. Jacob Klein, for a months visit. She was taken sick and passed away there.
Mrs. Blakely was the mother of nine children, six of whom preceded her to the other world. Those living are Mrs. W. M. Guessford of Newton, Iowa; Mrs. Jacob Klein of Killduff, Iowa; and Mrs. O. N. Green of Newton, Iowa. One grandchild she raised from infancy who was as dear to her as her own children, Mrs. Otis Braley, of Kellogg, Iowa. One brother and one sister live in Ohio.
