Tom, the son of Felix Louis and Ruth Leona (Pilcher) Ogier, was born January 20, 1944, in Chicago, IL. He grew up in Chicago and the Quad Cities before returning to Chicago, where he graduated from high school. Tom was united in marriage with Judy Beyer on December 7, 1996, at the Community Reformed Church in Newton. He had a long career in sales, beginning as a furniture sales representative for Lane and later transitioning to the auto sales and finance industry. He later worked as a controller at the Mitchellville Correctional Facility until his retirement. Tom was a longtime member of the Newton Community Reformed Church (now Newton Church of The Way), where he had served as a deacon, enjoyed men’s breakfasts, and faithfully attended until his health no longer allowed. Tom was a very organized and precise man. He had a vast range of knowledge and interests and was a history buff, which made him a fan of Jeopardy and other trivia games. He could also be counted on for a round of cards or a good Dad joke or pun every now and then. He will best be remembered as a man who, although he was big in statue, was very gentle and kind.
Those surviving Tom include his wife of 28 years, Judy Ogier of Newton; his children, Bill (Victoria) Ogier of Ankeny and Debbie (Todd) Hackathorn of Newton; his grandchildren: Stella and Norah Ogier, Brittany (Mike) Hoogeveen, and Bailey (Nathan) Konz; his great-grandchildren, Brody, Brielle, and Maelyn; and many cousins. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
