John Vernon Shaffer
October 23, 1953 - November 20, 2024

John Vernon Shaffer, age 71, of Newton, Iowa, passed away at MercyOne Hospital, in Newton, on November 20, 2024. A graveside service will be held at a later date. The son of Jack Shaffer and Violet (Sager) Gulling, John was born on October 23, 1953, in Newton, Iowa. During his life, John was always a talker. He could spin you a story in all sorts of ways, each one equally as colorful. He worked as a mechanic and had a passion for cars. He was always buying, selling, trading, or fixing up old cars. John spent over 40 years with Susan Warren, and together they shared many memories.

Those left to remember John include his wife; Susan Warren, three sons; Robert Warren, Russell Warren, and Jamey Annis, a brother; Bob Gulling Jr., seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Violet and Bob Gulling, a nephew; Jacob Gulling, and a brother; Mike Shaffer.
