John E. Birkenholtz
March 26, 1949 ~ October 21, 2024 (age 75)

John E. Birkenholtz, 75, of Newton, died Monday, October 21, 2024, at Park Centre. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. John’s family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, October 24, 2024, at the funeral home. The family requests casual dress for the services. Memorials in John’s name can be left at the funeral home. Please make checks payable to Andrea Birkenholtz.

John, the son of Marion and Ruth (Kooyman) Birkenholtz, was born March 26, 1949, in Newton. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1967 and shortly after, joined the Iowa Air National Guard, serving until 1978. John was united in marriage with Andrea Wing on November 27, 1970, in Metz. He worked for The Maytag Company for 35 years, retiring in 2004 after working in several departments. At the same time, John farmed his family’s land on Diamond Trail Road while also farming his own land near Metz. He was a hard worker who gave his full effort to anything he was doing. John was a member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau and a longtime member of the Metz Community Church, where he had been a past President. He enjoyed hunting, boating, water skiing, and socializing with people. He will be remembered for his ornery side, his love of animals, and most of all, the love he had for his family.

John is survived by his wife, Andrea Birkenholtz of Newton; his children, Lisa (Danny) Hawk of Newton, Laurie (Brian) Moffitt of Newton, and Beau (Holli) Birkenholtz of Knoxville; his grandchildren: Levi (Sadi) Hawk, and their son Hayden; Brilea Moffitt, Brooke Moffitt; Josalin McKeever, Jaxson Birkenholtz, Jaceton Birkenholtz, Jaida Birkenholtz, and Jenna Birkenholtz; and his sisters, Linda (John) Brannen and Sue Stover. He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother, Jim Birkenholtz.
