Ronnie Dean Dunwoody, the son of Lowell “Bud” and Mildred (Appelgate) Dunwoody, was born May 10, 1938, in rural Mahaska County. He graduated with the last class of Lynnville High School in 1956 and later attended William Penn University for a short time. Jan. 16, 1959, Ron was united in marriage to Maida Sparks at her family’s home in Lynnville and had three children Mark, Beth, and Ellen. Ron worked as a surveyor for Garden Engineering in Oskaloosa before starting his insurance career, spending many years at Grinnell Mutual, and then acting as an independent agent in Illinois and Iowa. After retirement, they moved back to Lynnville, and Ron stayed active doing odd jobs with the city of Lynnville and driving truck. Ron enjoyed go-karts and motorcycles. He also enjoyed coffee time with friends, making people laugh, and above all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a Lynnville Fire Chief and served on the Lynnville-Sully School Board. Ron had a strong faith, and church was important to him. Ron was an active member of Lynnville Friends Church, serving on multiple boards.
Ron will be fondly remembered and cherished by his wife Maida of Lynnville; his daughters Beth (Ralph) Bohstedt of Grinnell and Ellen (Tony) Mattia of Eagan, MN; five grandchildren Mark, Zach (Cori), Seth (Kaelyn), Trevor (Jamie), and Louie; one great-granddaughter Zoey; two sisters: Connie (Sandy) Chapman of Maine and Doreen (Dan) Ewart of California; and many other relatives and friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, his son Mark, and a granddaughter Abigail.
