July 19, 1930 ~ July 8, 2024 (age 93)

Phyllis Jean Yeutsy, 93, formerly of Newton died on Monday, July 8, 2024, at the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center in Des Moines.

Phyllis, the daughter of Theodore “Ted” and Vera (Casper) Dickerson, was born on July 19, 1930 in Newton. She graduated from Newton High School in 1948. Phyllis was united in marriage with Robert Yeutsy on August 4, 1949 at the First Christian Church in Newton. Over their 71 years of marriage they would do everything together.

Phyllis was a homemaker and enjoyed being a part of a MNO group (mother’s night out) that got together once a month for dinner, dessert, and catching up on the local news for over 40 years. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church. Phyllis enjoyed cooking, family gatherings, and was known for making her famous pies.

Phyllis is survived by her children, David (Connie) Yeutsy of Coralville and Kim Stivers of Clive; grandson, Evan Yeutsy of Coralville; her sisters, Sue (Dave) Beard of Beaverdale and Nancy Dickerson of Des Moines; and her nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; son-in-law, Kevin Stivers; brother, Jack Dickerson; and brothers-in-law, Doyle Yeutsy and Kenneth Yeutsy.

The family would like to extend a big thank you to both the Iowa Jewish Senior Center for the great care they provided her over the years and also to the Suncrest Hospice Team.

Per Phyllis’ wishes, no services will be held. The burial of Phyllis and her husband, Robert’s ashes will take place at Newton Union Cemetery.
