MC ALLEN, Texas – Virginia Van Gorp, 64, formerly of Newton died of cancer Wednesday, June 18, in McAllen Medical Center in McAllen, Texas.

Graveside services will be held at a later date.

She was born Feb. 10, 1939, in Kirksville, Mo. On Jan. 11, 1956, she married James L. Van Gorp Sr. She was a homemaker and worked at Win power for seven years. She lived in Newton until 1985 when she moved to south Texas.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Jim Van Gorp Jr. of Canada; two daughters, Anita Bayles of Newton and Penny Thomas of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Beulah Borts of New Sharon and Peggy Hughes; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mike Van Gorp; a grandson; her parents; and two brothers.
