November 13, 1956 ~ June 19, 2024 (age 67)

Donald “Donnie” Glen Lowe of Brighton, Iowa, died on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Donnie wanted a party so the family is hosting a Celebration at Life with a potluck-style picnic on Saturday, June 22 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Rubio Community Center, 190 1st St. in Rubio. Memorials to Donnie’s family may be mailed to The Donnie Lowe Family, PO Box 24, Brighton, IA 52540.

The son of Glen and Francine (Morgan) Lowe, Donnie was born on Nov. 13, 1956, in Washington. He attended Brighton Elementary School and graduated from Washington High School in 1975. On Oct. 11, 1980, Donnie married Mary (Dodson) Lowe in Bettendorf. The couple had three children: Jessica, Stacie and Zachary. Donnie loved mowing, working on small engines, reading, fishing, playing the lottery, listening to old radio programs, going to auctions, and making the rounds each morning in Brighton. He also loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved animals, especially his cats and his grandpups Ruby and Bowie. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and jokes and his generous spirit of helping friends and neighbors.

In 1976, Donnie enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard and served in the 134th Medical Company based in Washington. He served from 1976-1989 as a medical specialist. He was very proud of his 13 years of service in the Guard. He also served as a Brighton Volunteer firefighter for nearly 20 years. Donnie worked many years at Hanson’s Construction building bridges which he enjoyed pointing out the bridges he built when he would drive over them. He then worked at Walmart Warehouse in Mt. Pleasant, for almost 30 years before retiring.

Donnie is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary of Brighton; children: Jessica Lowe and Erik Vokes of Newton, Stacie Lowe and Catherine Ashton of Colfax, and Zachary Lowe of Colfax; his father, Glen Lowe of Brighton; two sisters: Margie (Bill) Derby and Pam Star; and many
nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding Donnie in death were his mother, Francine, and sisters: Lindy Glatch and Mary Jarrard.
