Wilbur, the son of James Henry and Lydia Bell (Riley) Davis, was born on June 24, 1928 in Kirksville, Missouri. He grew up and attended school in the Montezuma area. On August 22, 1948, Wilbur was united in marriage with Shirlene Stanford in Oskaloosa. Wilbur served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1953-1958. During his time in the military he lived in Salina, Kansas and received his GED. Upon his discharge, Wilbur and Shirlene made their home in Newton. Wilbur was a talented mechanic; owning and operating the Davis Mobil Gas/Service Station for 32 years in Newton, retiring in 1990. Even after retirement and during their winters spent in Florida, Wilbur continued to help people by servicing their lawn mowers, weed eaters, golf carts, and bicycles. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge #1270 where he served in the chairs, including as Exalted Ruler, for 13 years and the Masonic Lodge #59.

Wilbur is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Davis of Newton; grandson, Justin (Tara) Dodge of Waukee; great-grandchildren, Jared and Jaden Dodge; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirlene in 2020; two brothers; and five sisters.

A Father is there to help us be confident when timid, to be strong when weak, and to be fearless when scared. He is there to tell us stories of the past and lessons along the way. He is an inspiration and his memory will be in our thoughts forever. And a Grandfather is there to remind us to slow down and take life in. He is also there to guide us through life’s journey telling stories along the way.
