Terlouw, Gerald A. – 1917-1996

Services for Gerald A. Terlouw of Pella were held Saturday, February 24, 1996, at the Third Reformed Church in Pella. Rev. Ralph Menning and Rev. Donald Grange officiated services. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
Gerald Terlouw passed away February 22, 1996, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 78.
Gerald, the son of Andrew J. and Nellie (Vos) Terlouw was born August 16, 1917, on the family farm north of Pella. Gerald grew up in the Sandridge area north of Pella and spent much of his life in the Pella area. On October 29, 1946, he married Nellie Dikkenberg at the Reformed Church in Prairie City. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Chuck and Kathy. In 1954, he and Nellie moved to Prairie City where they made their home until 1971, when they returned to Pella. Gerald farmed much of his life and later worked for the City of Pella in their water department. He retired in 1986.
Gerald was a member of the Third Reformed Church where he had served as Elder and Deacon. He taught Sunday School and enjoyed singing in the choir. He also served his country in World War II in the 8th Air Force. Gerald was an active member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his children, Chuck and his wife, Sylvia Terlouw of West Des Moines and Kathy and her husband Dale Deur of Pella; four grandchildren, Amy and Laura Terlouw and Jana and Scott Deur; two brothers, John E. Terlouw and his wife, Leona, of Pella, and Reverend Lester “Buck” Terlouw and his wife, Louise, of Cantril, Iowa; a sister Sophia A. and her husband Marvin Swank of Sully, Iowa, and two honorary grandchildren, Angie Rumer and Monica Deur.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie and his parents.
