Jeanie Phipps Hunter, 60, of Searsboro, died Saturday, July 1, 2017, at her home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 8, at the Searsboro Friends Church with the Rev. Mike Johnson officiating. A reception will be held at the Searsboro Community Center following the memorial service.
Inurnment will be at a later date at the Rock Creek Cemetery near Grinnell. Should friends desire, memorials may be directed to the Jeanie Hunter Memorial Fund and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.
Jeannie was born May 27, 1957, in Grinnell to Dale and Pauline Clayton Phipps. She was raised in Grinnell and attended Grinnell schools. Jeannie was a member of the Class of 1975.
Apr. 16, 1977, she was united in marriage to Bruce Benson, and to this marriage were born two daughters, Julie and Becky. The couple lived in the Rock Creek area. Jeannie was employed by the Donaldson Company and Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Sept. 10, 2005, she was married to Robert Hunter in Searsboro. Jeannie and Bob made their home in Searsboro, where she was a member of the Friends Church and the city council. Prior to her illness, she worked as a press operator for Montezuma Manufacturing Company.
Jeannie was a member of the Kellogg American Legion Auxiliary, and she enjoyed raising chickens, socializing with family and friends over a cup of coffee, maintaining her garden, and baking cookies. She was known as a hard worker but enjoyed her neighborhood card games and her relationship with her pet dog, "Lizzie."
Survivors include her husband, Robert Hunter of Searsboro; her two daughters, Julie (Josh) Lacaeyse and Becky (Kenny Goughnour) Benson, all of Grinnell; five great-grandchildren, Damian Benson, Delaney Lacaeyse, Megan Benson, Drake Goughnour, and Mackenzie Goughnour; two brothers, Dale Phipps Jr. and Charles Phipps, both of Grinnell; and one sister, Delores "Dolly" Kinzebach of Barnes City.
Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Miles Phipps.
