Guy C. Jansen was born Dec. 27, 1926, in Jasper County, the third of 10 children of Evert and Gertie (Fopma) Jan-sen. He was lifted to glory to be with his Lord on Monday, Apr. 25, 2022, at Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella. He attained the age of 95 years, three months, and 29 days.
Funeral services were Friday, Apr. 29, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella preceded by committal service at 9:30 a.m. at Sully Cemetery. Memorials are designated for Pella Manor of Hearthstone or Pathways of Pella.
Guy attended rural school in Jasper County, graduating from the eighth grade in 1942. He helped his father farm until he was united in marriage to Janet Rolffs on Dec. 29, 1949.
They lived and farmed near Kellogg for 42 years, where God blessed them with their four children. He loved the beautiful countryside with all the bountiful lush crops.
Guy was a very handy man with the ability to repair anything from machinery to household items. On his own at the age of 80, he learned how to use a computer and still did until his last days.
While farming, Guy drove bus for Newton Community School District for 11 years. During his spare time from farming, he and Janet both delivered Winnebago motorhomes all over the USA for eight years. They traveled throughout Europe, Canada, and all of the states in the USA. They went to Holland twice and enjoyed several cruises.
In 1991, they moved to Pella and became managers of Fair Haven East. They retired in 1996, moved to Pella Manor, and have lived there since then. He and Janet spent the winters in Bradenton, FL, since 1997 where they attended the Bradenton Chapel. They enjoyed the weather and did volunteer work there. Guy transported Janet’s marimba so she could provide special music for local churches in Florida and Iowa. Because Guy was blessed with good health and strength, he continued his lifelong commitment of caring for God’s creation by maintaining the grounds of the Stan Vermeer residence until December 2021.
Guy attended Sully Christian Reformed Church where he professed his faith. In 1961, he and the family transferred to Newton Christian Reformed Church where he served as both elder, deacon, and Sunday school teacher. He was active in various committees and offices and was currently a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella.
He also served on Pella Christian High School Board, building committee of Sully Christian School, and on boards of Mid Iowa Telephone Co., Kellogg Co-op, Kellogg Housing, and Farm Bureau.
Guy was a kind, faithful, devoted husband, father, loving grandfather, and great-grandfather. Those who will cherish his memory are his wife for 72 years, Janet, and his immediate family: Karen (Merle) Renaud of Nokomis, FL, David (Joan) Jansen of Ankeny, Georgia (Denny) Slings of Kellogg, Vicky (Mark) Huizer of Pella; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters: Charlie (Cornelia) Jansen of Grand Rapids, MI, Berdena Vos of Sully, Wilma Van Kooten of Pella, Melvin (Marilyn) Jansen of Newton; brother-in-law Nelson Geels of Pella; and sister-in-law Arlyn Jansen of Grand Rapids. Janet’s siblings living are: John (Shirley) Rolffs of Wilmar, MN, Mildred Lanser of Pella, Dorothy (Marion) Vos and Jan Rolffs of Oskaloosa.
In death, he has joined his grandson Chase Huizer; his parents; four brothers: Edwin and Earl as infants, Dick who was serving in World War II, and Ed Jansen; one sister Doris Geels; and his parents-in-law Dick and Minnie (Jansen) Rolffs and Henrietta (Nieuwsma) Rolffs; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Junior Vos, Delmer Van Kooten, Henry and Hermina Rolffs, Lou Lanser, Cornelia and Wilbur Vos, and Marvin Rolffs.
