Hoogeveen, Clara Theda Van Hove – 1927-2024

Clara Hoogeveen, 96, of Pella and formerly of Sully, passed away Friday, Feb. 9, 2024. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, at Sully Christian Reformed Church followed by funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Sully Cemetery. Memorials have been designated for Megan's Legacy, c/o Mike Hoogeveen, PO Box 343, Sully IA 50251 or Sully Christian School Library.
Clara Theda Hoogeveen was born Oct. 24, 1927, to Fanno and Tena (Wubben) Van Hove in Prinsburg, MN.
Mar. 14, 1946, she was united in marriage to Stanley Hoogeveen at the Emden Christian Reformed Church of Renville, MN. To this union five children were born: Linda, Carol, Steve, Phil, and Michael.
Clara worked for the Sully grocery store and as the librarian at Sully Christian School. In her spare time, Clara enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch, and embroidery. She also enjoyed baking and making desserts for coffee time and Sunday dinners. Clara ran a tight ship at home and kept a diary for decades. Stan and Clara were avid travelers and enjoyed camping all over the United States and Canada. They enjoyed sitting together watching the eagles below the dam.
Clara is survived by her children Linda (Terry) Zylstra, Phil (Barb) Hoogeveen, and Mike (Brittany) Hoogeveen; son-in-law Wes Van Wyk; daughter-in-law Connie Hoogeveen; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Ed Muller of Kalamazoo, MI; and sister-in-law Lydia Hoogeveen of Wilmar, MN.
Clara was preceded in death by her husband Stan, parents, daughter Carol, son Steve, granddaughter Megan Hoogeveen, grandson David Hoogeveen, brother Ervin Van Hove, sister Marcella (Ed) Muller, and Stan’s siblings: Angie (Robert) Gort, Esther (Anthony) Zondervan, Eva (Lester) Brouwer, Helen (Delmar) Mulder, Lorraine Hoogeveen, and Harry Hoogeveen.
