Barbara Jean Pohlman
August 13, 1931 - March 22, 2024

Barbara Jean Pohlman entered the world on August 13, 1931, as the daughter of Joseph and Edith (Meckley) Stayner of Colfax Iowa. She always said her favorite birthdays were those of Friday the 13th. Although she had no siblings, she often talked about her fun Meckley cousins. Also, one of her family treasures was being a cousin to Abe Lincoln. Grandma Hanks Meckley was cousin to Abraham Lincoln’s mother. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to the Pohlman Foundation, a part of the ISU Museums' Fund for Excellence. Barb’s childhood was being active in music, girls’ basketball, and the local 4-H group. She was also a member of the International Order of the Rainbow. She graduated from Colfax High as valedictorian in 1949.

Barb was a bank teller at the Colfax bank until she met the love of her life, Lyle Pohlman. They married December 28, 1950, for a union that lasted over 73 years. During their marriage, Barb was a strong support for Lyle in their businesses. She used her leadership strengths by organizing many meetings, doing newsletters, a seat on the advisory board for Conklin for the woman’s side of the business. Barb also worked at Grinnell College and Regis High School. In 1977 she opened a microwave shop which led to several cooking spots on a local tv station and a class at Kirkwood College.

Barb loved to go go go. One of their favorite spots was Branson Missouri where they went several times. They went on a Caribbean cruise. Some of their biggest travel destinations were Spain, Africa, and Hawaii.

On October 19, 1951, she welcomed their daughter, Susi Pohlman Griffin. Currently Susi lives in Waukee. On December 11, 1958, she welcomed daughter, Sheri Pohlman. Currently Sheri lives in Marion. In 1965, Bob joined the family. Currently Bob (Kathy) Pohlman live in Monroe. Her grandchildren are: Megan (Dan) Stuhr, Dennison IL; Chad (Erin) Davis, Urbandale; John Pohlman, Grimes; Darin (Crystal) Drake, Monroe; Daric Drake, Norwalk; Danel (Sara) Drake, Prairie City

Her great children are: Elizabeth (Martin) Stones; Amelia (Daniel) Lenhart; Zachary (Maggie) Stuhr; Gabriel Stuhr; Eve Stuhr; Madeline Davis; Kelsey Davis; Tucker Pohlman; Taylor (Stephen LaVellee) Drake; Darian Drake; Payton Drake; Leah Drake; Darica (Eric) Yates; Hunter Drake; Cade Drake; Lark Drake; Daegun Drake; Danson Drake; Austin (Shianne) Bucknell; Justin Bucknell; Kylee Bucknell; and Jayden Bucknell. She had 7 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Edith Stayner and her grandson Ryan Davis
