Gladys L. Meyer, 100, of Newton died of heart failure Saturday, March 1, at Careage of Newton in Newton.

Private family services will be held at a later date. The body was donated to the University of Iowa for medical research. Burial will be at a later date. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to the Newton First United Methodist Church, Skiff Hospital Auxiliary or to the Arthritis Foundation Iowa Chapter and may be left at Wallace Family Funeral Home.

The daughter of M.D. and Effie Mae (Holdsworth) Horn, she was born June 28, 1902, in Sully. She attended Jasper County country school and Newton Senior High School. On Nov. 28, 1929, she married Fred E. Meyer in Newton. She was a farm wife and homemaker. Mrs. Meyer was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Amboy Grange, and the McCord Homemakers.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Richard W. "Dick" and Durella Meyer of Newton; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara A. and Terry Deitrick of Garden Grove, Calif.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother and seven sisters.
