P. Johnson Dies at 69
Rites for Newton Man To Be Conducted Wednesday Afternoon
Pat Johnson, 69, of 213 West Eighth Street North, died about 9:30 o’clock Monday evening at his home where he had been in failing health for more than 3 years.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Murdoch Funeral home with interment following in the Palo Alto cemetery.
Mr. Johnson was born in Holbrook, Ia., August 22, 1871, and moved to Jasper county about 40 years ago. He was employed some time in the Denniston and Partridge Lumber company and then took up farming. They moved into Newton about five years ago. About 23 years ago. Mr. Johnson’s eyesight began to fail him and in later years had been totally blind.
He was married Jan. 18, 1904.
Surviving is his wife, a son, Thomas, one grandson of Newton and two brothers, Tom and Pete Johnson of Granite City, Ill., and three sisters, Mrs. Kate Griffin of Belleville, Ill., and Mrs. Mary Curry of East St. Louis, Ill., and Mrs. Jennie Doarn of Collinsville, Ill.

Johnson Rites Held Wednesday
Funeral services for Pat Johnson, 69, were conducted at the Murdoch Funeral home Wednesday afternoon by the Rev. Rose Mills of Green Mountain, Ia. Interment was in the Palo Alto cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bert Snook, George Conn, Roy Conn, Harry Grote, Joe Arbs and Robert Arbs.
Mrs. Maurice Rodgers sand “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere.” She was accompanied by Mrs. R. L. Jackson.
Mr. Johnson was born in Holbrook, Ia., August 22, 1871, and died Feb. 24, 1941 at his home in Newton, Ia.
He moved to Jasper county about 40 years ago and was employed about seven years at the Denniston and Partridge Lumber company and then took up farming. They moved into Newton about five years ago.
He was married Jan. 18, 1904.
