Clement, 93, Dies Today
Newton Pioneer Fractures Hip In Fall At Home Wednesday
Jesse M. Clement, 93-year-old retired railroad man, died this morning at 12:30 o’clock at the Skiff Memorial Hospital where he had entered Friday morning. Mr. Clement fell at his home at 1001 First Avenue West Wednesday morning and suffered a fractured left hip.
Mr. Clement, a life member of the I.O.O.F. lodge, has belonged for about 60 years and has been through all the chairs. His lodge work was important to him and for several years he never missed a regular meeting.
He was also a member of the Methodist church and of the Three Quarter Century club of the Newton Daily News and Jasper County Record.
He was born in Butler, O., on August 20, 1847, and came to Iowa at the age of 7 years. Most of the time since then had been spent in Jasper county. He lived at Colfax until 13 year ago. Following the occupation of railroad section foreman, he helped lay the tracks between Newton and Colfax.
Wed in 1869
In 1869 he was wed to Sarah M. Baker at Newton, Ia., and to this union were born three sons, B. F. Clement of Newton, A. R. Clement of Carlisle and also G. C. Clement, who preceded him in death. Mrs. Clement died about 23 years ago.
Surviving are two sons, a sister, Mrs. Belle Adkins and a brother, Vess Clement of Carlisle.

Clement Services At Colfax Church Tuesday
Funeral services for Jessie M. Clement, 93, who died Saturday morning at the Skiff Memorial hospital, will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Methodist church in Colfax. Rev. W. M. Doughty will be in charge with interment following in the Colfax cemetery.
