COLFAX - Zola May Hiatt, 87, of Colfax died of a respiratory ailment Saturday, April 5, at Mitchell Village Care Center.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Walters Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax with Pastor Bill Cotton officiating. Burial will be at the Mitchellville Cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday after noon at the funeral home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the Colfax United Methodist Church.

The daughter of Noah and Anna (Gummer) Peterson, she was born July 20, 1915, in Colfax. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1932.

On Feb. 28, 1937, she married Worth "Chic" Hiatt in Colfax. She was a farm wife and a homemaker and had previously worked as a bookkeeper for Van Dusseldorp Sand & Gravel in Colfax, James W. Bell Co., and Jack Zimmerman & Co. in Des Moines. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Colfax First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hiatt enjoyed traveling and gardening.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Libby Hiatt of Mitchellville, three granddaughters and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Ray and Roy and two sisters, Flossie and Mable.
