Victor C. "Vic" Atwood, 58, of 925 E. 7th St. N. died of complications of cancer Friday, April 4, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith of the Skiff Medical Center officiating. Burial will be at Palo Alto Cemetery in rural Newton.

Friends may call after noon today at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Victor C. and Edith E. (Halbloom) Atwood, he was born Aug. 22, 1944, in Newton. He attended Newton Senior High School. On Oct. 22, 1965, he married Kathleen K. Roush. They divorced May 1972. He was a factory worker in dryer assembly for the Maytag Company for 16 years. He retired this year. He was a member of Moose Lodge No. 923.

Survivors include a son, Victor L. of Knoxville; a daughter and her fiance, Melissa Atwood and Chris Schoh, both of Newton; two grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Phyllis Atwood of Newton and Steve and Sharon Atwood of Baxter; a step-sister and brother-in-law, Mary Beth and Charles Lewis of Skillman, N.J.; a sister-in-law, Mary Atwood of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kenneth, twin sisters in infancy and a nephew.
